MUSCAT: HH Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos of the East, and Malankara Metropolitan, has concluded his maiden two-week apostolic visit to the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka (MGOME), Muscat. Delivering the blessing address at a reception in his honour on Easter day, the Catholicos called upon all religions to come together for a common cause to remove injustice in the society and promote justice. His Holiness also called upon all religions to come under a wider ecumenism towards fulfilling these aims. He said the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church through its new ‘Sahoodaran’ charity project aims to project the message of ‘universal brotherhood’. “One day, we will be able to realise a golden future where all can live peacefully without any form of rivalry and injustice,” the Catholicos noted. His Holiness was the chief celebrant for the Holy Week services at the Maha Edavaka during his visit to the Sultanate of Oman after his enthronement as the Supreme Head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church of India.
HE Amit Narang, Ambassador of India, Sultanate of Oman, who was the chief guest at a reception, hailed the contributions of the Indian Orthodox Church all over the world for its rich contributions and towards maintaining its identity. He recalled the Malankara Orthodox church which has its origins in the missions of St Thomas the Apostle in the first century. The Ambassador was presented with a traditional memento by the Catholicos. MGOME Vicar/President Fr Varughese Tiju Ipe in his presidential address hailed the philanthropic qualities of His Holiness as he considers ‘humanity as a universal brotherhood.’ His Holiness had launched 18 charitable projects in the 1990s which were still going strong by serving the society untiringly. He also mentioned the Muscat church which has reached a milestone in its Golden Jubilee year and is still continuing its journey of rendering help to many faithful in the desert land. “An important task to be performed is the sanctification of the church and the land (koodosh) and let the Lord Almighty bless us in this venture,” the Vicar added. Among those who addressed the audience included Rev Justin Meyers, Executive Director, Al Amana Centre, Ahmed Rayees, CEO, Al Dastoor and KMCC Oman Central Committee President, Diocesan Council member Dr Geevarghese Yohannan, Chairman, MGM Group of Educational institutions and chairperson of the golden jubilee celebrations, Kiran Asher, group managing director, Al Ansari Group of Companies and board member, management of Hindu temples. Earlier, Jabson Varghese, Hon Trustee, MGOME, delivered the welcome address. Senior choir of MGOME sang national anthems of both Sultanate of Oman and India before the programme began. പൊതുജനാഭിപ്രായം തേടുന്നതിലൂടെ സുപ്രീം കോടതി വിധി അട്ടിമറിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നതിനോട് സഭ യോജിക്കുന്നുമില്ല, സഹകരിക്കുന്നുമില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ പൊതുജനങ്ങള്‍ എന്ന നിലയില്‍ സഭാംഗങ്ങള്‍ക്കോ അല്ലാത്തവര്‍ക്കോ സ്വന്തമായ നിലയില്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ അഭിപ്രായം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതില്‍ സഭ വിലക്കുന്നതുമില്ല. സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ സ്വീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നിലപാടുകളോടുളള സഭയുടെ ശക്തമായ വിയോജിപ്പ് ബഹു. മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയെ രേഖാമൂലം അറിയിച്ചിട്ടുളളതാണ്. കേരളത്തിലെ സാംസ്‌ക്കാരിക, രാഷ്ട്രീയ, സാമുദായിക നേതാക്കന്മാര്‍ ഇക്കാര്യത്തില്‍ പ്രതികരിക്കമ്പോള്‍ മലങ്കര സഭയുടെ വ്യവഹാര ചരിത്രവും കോടതി വിധിയുടെ അന്തഃസത്തയും മനസ്സിലാക്കി സംസാരിക്കുന്നത് നല്ലതായിരിക്കും എന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം സൂചിപ്പിച്ചു. കോടതി വിധിയെക്കുറിച്ച് പരിഹാസത്തോട് സംസാരിച്ച ഡോ. സെബാസ്്റ്റിയന്‍ പോളിന്റെ നിലപാടുകള്‍ വസ്തുതകള്‍ മനസ്സിലാകാതെയാണ്.
ഇരുകൂട്ടരും ഒരുമിച്ച് പോകുന്നതിന് സുപ്രീം കോടതി എടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള നിലപാടുകളില്‍ നിന്നും ഏകപക്ഷീയമായി പിന്‍മാറിയവര്‍ നീതിനിഷേധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു എന്ന് മുറവിളികൂട്ടുന്നത് അപഹാസ്യമാണ്. രണ്ടു വിഭാഗവും ഭരണഘടനയ്ക്ക് വിധേയമായി ഒരുമിച്ച് പോകണമെന്നുളള കോടതി നിലപാടുകള്‍ മറികടക്കാനുളള നിഗൂഢ ശ്രമത്തെ നിയമ അവബോധമുളളവര്‍ പിന്‍താങ്ങില്ല. നാല്‍ക്കവലകളിലും പൊതുസ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും മേശയിട്ടിരുന്ന് വന്ന് പോകുന്ന ആളുകളെ അനുഭാവപൂര്‍വ്വം സമീപിച്ച് പാത്രിയര്‍ക്കീസ് വിഭാഗം ഒപ്പ് ശേഖരണം നടത്തുന്ന രീതി നാടുനീളെ ദൃശ്യമാണെന്നും മാര്‍ ദീയസ്‌കോറോസ് പറഞ്ഞു.
MUSCAT: HH Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos of the East, and Malankara Metropolitan, led the Vade Dalmino Liturgy, a service which symbolises the beginning of Holy Week on Monday morning at 5 am after night prayer following a procession. The Catholicos of the East was accompanied by Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka (MGOME), Vicar/President Fr Varughese Tiju Ipe, Associate Vicar Fr Abey Chacko, Fr K G Thomas, Fr Baiju, Personal Secretary to His Holiness and the altar servers. Vade Dalmino means ‘entrance into heaven’ and the liturgy is based on the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1). This liturgy is conducted after the second Kaumo after midnight prayers on the first day of the Passion Week. The Catholicos led the liturgy inside the Church with prayers and songs. Before the reading of the Gospel the clergy in their vestments marched out of the Church in a procession through the northern door and reached the southern door which remain closed until after the Gospel reading. Once all of them reached the door step, the Gospel was read by His Holiness in his role as the chief celebrant for the Holy Week. The procession went inside the Church and with prayers the liturgy is closed. On April 13, Wednesday, the Catholicos will lead the Pessaha Service followed by feet washing service on April 14 at 6 pm.
MUSCAT: Hosanna, Hosanna in the Highest, as HH Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos of the East, and Malankara Metropolitan, led the Palm Sunday (Hosanna) service at St Thomas Church, Ruwi, on April 9 evening. His Holiness based his sermon on Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and into the temple from the Gospels. The Supreme Head of the Malankara Orthodox Church called upon the faithful to follow a life of piety and humble just like the life of Jesus Christ. “His triumphal entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey reveals this character and took place in the days before the Last Supper, marking the beginning of his Passion, his time of suffering, death, and resurrection celebrated during Holy Week.” The Catholicos further said riding a lowly animal denotes a symbol of peace. “When horses are mentioned in the Bible they are almost always in relation to kings and war, while donkeys are mentioned in relation to common people,” His Holiness mentioned. He recalled from the Holy Bible when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, some of them spread their cloaks on the road for Jesus to ride on, while others cut branches from the palm trees and spread them on the road or waved them for Jesus. Palm Sunday marked the sixth and last Sunday of the Holy month of Lent and the beginning of Holy week. Muscat, MGOME Vicar/President Fr Varughese Tiju Ipe, Associate Vicar Fr Abey Chacko and Fr Baiju, Personal Secretary to His Holiness, also took part in the Hosanna services.
